An old outboard motor can look like machinery. To someone who grew up around the water, it can look like summer.
The distinctive shape, metal construction, controls, and mechanical character immediately belong to another era of boating and fishing.

Seeing all the posts of the 4th of July Algonac Pickerel Tournament, along with wonderful photos from the boat parade, made me a little nostalgic and got me going on this drawing.
I'm pretty sure almost every family living on the St. Clair River had one on their rowboat, a early 1950s, Johnson 5 hp Sea-Horse outboard engine.
It left this wonderful whitish-blue smoke and a rainbow of oil on the water.
The drawing is about twice as tall as an actual outboard engine - lol, but the great thing is, it isn't leaking oil all over my studio.
