By the time I drew this second grape Tootsie Pop, the candy had become almost secondary.
What interested me was how instantly recognizable it was. Make it six feet tall, and people still don't see graphite and colored pencil first. They see a Tootsie Pop.
And then something happens.
They tell me which flavor they liked. Where they bought them. Who gave them one. How many licks it took to get to the center.
That's when the drawing starts doing what I want it to do. It stops being my Tootsie Pop.
It becomes a shared memory.
