This is my second Johnson Sea-Horse outboard motor drawing. It’s a 1948, 5hp model. The drawing is graphite and colored pencil on paper and measures 36″ W x 72″ T. When I look at a 50s outboard, I have memories of rainbow-colored gas and oil slicks on the water with the heavy blue smoke pouring from the exhaust as the engine sputters to warm up. I said this about my first Sea-forse drawing, I’m pretty sure, almost every family living on the St. Clair River had a Johnson outboard engine on one of their boats at one point. These engines just have that incredible style, color, and feel of the 50s. I love ’em.
