"Smoking" a Self-Portrate by Mike Pitzer

$1,500.00

In 1984-1985, I became Sr. Art Director at BBDO and moved to San Francisco to work on the Apple Computer account, Gymboree, and Almaden Vineyards. At that time, my artwork was large format, cut paper female model studies. I was also doing 36”x48” comic book-style artwork based on funny things that happened in advertising. As I refined my ink line and dot stipple technique, I started experimenting with different materials. This was done on illustration board and then transferred to a film positive. I was going to wire a light into the burning end of my cigarette but never did. Yes, back then, we all smoked. And we smoked anywhere. I myself believed there were two great ideas in every pack of cigarettes, plus I loved smoking, so it was hard to give it up back then.
