"No Middle Ground"
I did this painting back in 2008 during the presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain. I called it "No Middle Ground". There was a massive divide in the country. So I created a large matchstick and wrote all of the issues of the day that were ripping America apart. There was simply no middle ground at that time. You were on one side or you were the enemy.
Here it is 13+ years later and here we are still arguing about the same stuff, okay, we've added "voter fraud" and "pandemic". But what have we solved in those years? I completed this artwork in 2021 because it felt like the world was still being torn apart and any one of these issues could have burned us to the ground.
Sociopolitical art is used to help the public understand a particular social or political issue. Unfortunately, when it comes to these political subject matters, there is no understanding, there can be no compromise, there is absolutely no middle ground, and there is no resolution — only heartache for our nation and heartbreak for our people.
