Sometimes the most interesting discoveries happen when we stop trying to control the outcome.
Color Texture No. 1 began as an experiment in materials, color, and the freedom to create without a predetermined destination. Working with acrylics, Dr. Martin's dyes, India ink, and sand, I allowed the materials to interact naturally, pouring and layering them as the composition gradually revealed itself.
Colors flowed into one another. Pigments gathered, separated, and settled into unexpected patterns. Sand introduced texture and resistance, while the liquid mediums created a sense of movement that I had never intended.
What fascinated me most was the realization that I wasn't entirely directing the painting. The materials were contributing something of their own.
For an artist accustomed to carefully controlling every detail, surrendering that control became the most rewarding part of the experience.
Sometimes creativity isn't about knowing where you're going. It's about being willing to discover where the work takes you.
