1960s Murray Fire Chief Pedal Car | Original Pop-Realism Drawing by Mike Pitzer

$2,500.00

Some objects belong to our childhood even when we never actually owned them. We remember them through desire — the things we wanted, the things we imagined, and the things that somehow became part of our personal mythology.

The 1960s Murray Fire Chief Pedal Car is one of those objects for me.

With its fire-engine-red pressed-steel body and unmistakable mid-century American styling, this classic children's toy represented an era when imagination could turn a little car into an entire world and an afternoon of possibility. Through AMM, this work becomes more than a portrait of a vintage toy. It explores the emotional life of familiar objects, the persistence of childhood dreams, and the curious ways desire can survive long after childhood has passed.

Sometimes, we don't need to have possessed something for it to become part of our story. Sometimes, wanting it is enough. I never owned one, but if they ever make an adult-sized version, I'd be first in line.
