Michigan Caramel Apple | Original Pop-Realism Drawing by Mike Pitzer

$1,000.00

Sometimes, it’s not what I’m drawing that sparks so many memories. It’s as simple as seeing something like a caramel apple in a Walmart as my wife and I were doing our grocery shopping.

Seeing the apple on the shelf brought back memories of the entire family piling into my Dad’s silver-blue Chrysler station wagon and us all heading to the apple farm for cider and a casndy apple…or for me, it was the caramel version.

My drawing captures those memories, fighting for a window seat. Not the one behind Dad because he’d flick his cigarette ash out the window as he drove and it’d come back through the window behind him.

This is American Material Memory.

From the Artist

Every summer, my entire family would head out to Yates Cider Mill for our cider and, if we were lucky, a candy or caramel apple.

For me, it was a caramel one because I always felt like the candy ones would pull your fillings out when you bit into them.

I still get that filling when I look at my drawings, not that I ever lost one to a candy apple. It was just the feeling that I would.
