This precise pop-realism drawing by Mike Pitzer presents a vintage 1950s wooden sled, rendered in graphite and Prismacolor pencils with exceptional detail and clarity. The sled stands vertically against a neutral, light background, its classic form isolated to emphasize both structure and nostalgic character. The bold red central plank, marked with "CHAMPION" and "No. 1 Line," anchors the composition, while natural wood slats and curved metal supports reveal subtle textures and craftsmanship. The metal runners gleam with smooth, reflective surfaces, accented by wooden crossbars that add warmth to the cool metal tones. A ribbed, grayish handle completes the composition, enhancing the sled’s retro identity. Pitzer’s artwork captures the sled with striking realism, inviting quiet reflection on an object that blends functional design with mid-century Americana.
This is probably one of the coolest vintage sleds I've found. It’s a 1950’s Kalamazoo Champion Sno-Liner Racing Sled. It’s also No.3 in a series of 15 sleds I’ve challenged myself to draw because each one has amazing patina and retro graphics, and they each bring back such amazing memories as a kid growing up in the little town of Algonac, Michigan, on the St. Clair River.
